Since 1981, The iO Theater has been the home of long-form improvisation in Chicago and the world. Founded by Charna Halpern and Del Close, iO's unique approach toward improvisation moved the artform away from short form theater games and towards the longform style that is now performed all over the world. The iO is still one of the premiere training centers for long form improv in the world and has helped launched the careers of such successful performers such as Tina Fey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Amy Poehler, Tim Meadows, Neil Flynn, Dave Koechner, Chris Redd, Jason Sudeikis, Seth Meyers, Rachel Dratch, Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong, Tim Robinson, Stephanie Weir, and many more. The iO Theater offers four performing spaces, two bars, a full service kitchen, a beer patio, and an event space.
