‘Ballroom Culture’ in partnership with the DuSable Museum

Arts Pass: Ballroom Culture: Beyond the Renaissance

For one night only, this interactive, live performance exhibition includes film screenings, DJ’d music, discussion panels, audience participation, and a mini-Ball competition (in categories across fashion, beauty, realness, and performance)—all in service of exploring the messages, influences, and histories of Ballroom Culture as established in 1980s Harlem by Black Trans women and further developed by Black and Brown queer communities. The theme “Beyond the Renaissance’’ references Beyoncé’s critically-acclaimed recent album and world tour of the same name, which paid homage to the specific artistic and cultural innovations of the Black LGBTQIA+ community of the past, present, and future.

Tickets are $10 and available to UChicago Students only at this link
